Voya’s Employee Benefits division is seeking Stop Loss Underwriters to evaluate employer group medical stop loss submissions and support underwriting decisions for both new business and renewal opportunities. This role analyzes risk and pricing factors, including group demographics, claim experience, large claimant activity, participation, plan design, contract terms, funding arrangements, and overall profitability, while ensuring proposed stop loss coverage aligns with underwriting guidelines and can be effectively administered. The underwriter partners with internal teams, field personnel, brokers, and clients to gather information, communicate decisions, and support competitive, financially sound solutions across the stop loss book of business. Successful candidates bring strong analytical judgment, attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and clear communication skills, with responsibilities and approval authority increasing by level. Key level differences: Associate Group Underwriter: Entry-level underwriting role working under direct supervision on basic group insurance applications; approval authority up to 1,000 lives; typically requires 0–2 years of underwriting experience. Senior Group Underwriter: Independently underwrites more difficult and complex group insurance applications; approval authority up to 5,000 lives; typically requires 3–4 years of group underwriting or voluntary benefits experience; may provide training and guidance to lower-level underwriters. Lead Group Underwriter: Independently underwrites the most complex cases and provides broader guidance, work direction, training, and quality/performance input; approval authority up to 10,000 lives; typically requires 5–8 years of underwriting experience, with supplemental health experience preferred.
