This opportunity resides with All-Domain Operations (ADO), a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. All-Domain Operations comprises multi-domain operations, platforms and logistics, and intelligence operations. The RF Engineer provides engineering expertise in support of U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) by analyzing, designing, developing, and sustaining advanced wireless and radio‑frequency (RF) systems used in mission‑critical operations. This role supports the full lifecycle of RF capabilities, including system design, modeling and simulation, test and evaluation, optimization, and technical documentation. The RF Engineer applies DoD engineering standards and RF domain knowledge to ensure system performance, reliability, and readiness across communications, radar, electronic warfare, and related SOCOM mission systems.This requisition supports hiring at multiple experience levels. Final placement will be determined based on the selected applicant’s qualifications, experience, and skill sets. Requirements

  • Level 2: 2 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 0 years experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years relevant experience.
  • Level 3: 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Level 4: 9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience.
  • Experience providing RF engineering, wireless communications, or electronic warfare support to SOCOM, DoD programs, or other government defense efforts.
  • Strong understanding of RF theory, propagation, antenna systems, and wireless network engineering principles.
  • Experience designing, developing, and validating RF links, architectures, and system performance.
  • Proficiency with RF measurement tools, diagnostic equipment, and test instrumentation.
  • Ability to analyze network statistics and drive‑test data, identify deficiencies, and recommend performance improvements.
  • Experience with modeling and simulation of RF circuits, propagation, and antenna patterns.
  • Ability to develop technical documentation, procedures, test plans, and engineering reports in accordance with DoD expectations.
  • Experience supporting RF system integration, test, and optimization across communications, radar, or EW systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to resolve complex RF engineering challenges.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to brief technical findings to government and contractor audiences.
  • Must possess and maintain a Top-Secret clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing radar phased‑array transmit/receive modules (T/R modules).
  • Hands‑on experience with tools such as Agilent ADS, ANSYS HFSS, NI LabView, and MATLAB.
  • Experience modeling near‑field antenna patterns and performing phase noise analysis.
  • Knowledge of RF component design including MMICs, MCMs, converters, and amplifiers.
  • Experience in reverse engineering RF hardware or developing obsolescence mitigation strategies.
  • Familiarity with DoD communication systems, tactical RF equipment, and EW system architectures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering documentation tools.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, and develop wireless telecommunications and RF capabilities to support SOCOM operational requirements.
  • Design, plan, establish, and optimize wireless networks and RF architectures.
  • Develop, evaluate, and enhance RF network infrastructures; provide recommendations for system upgrades and optimization.
  • Conduct technical assessments from concept development through system launch.
  • Design and validate RF link performance, quality, and reliability across diverse operational environments.
  • Use RF measurement, diagnostic, and test tools to evaluate, tune, and optimize equipment.
  • Develop manuals, documentation, and engineering procedures supporting RF system operation and maintenance.
  • Optimize existing networks by adjusting RF parameters, modifying network neighbor lists, and recommending hardware corrections.
  • Monitor and analyze statistical and drive‑test data to improve KPIs such as dropped calls, blocking rates, origination failures, and handoff performance.
  • Apply propagation theory, antenna theory, and cellular network principles to determine tower placement and optimize coverage.
  • Conduct capacity planning, GSM frequency planning, and frequency hopping analysis using carrier‑to‑interference (C/I) assessments.
  • Recommend site upgrades, including antenna down‑tilt adjustments and radio re‑orientation.
  • Support the development, acquisition, and sustainment of complex RF systems used in communications, radar, and electronic warfare missions.
  • Design and evaluate RF components and subsystems including up/down converters, amplifiers, MMICs, MCMs, and T/R modules.
  • Reverse‑engineer legacy RF hardware to develop obsolescence mitigation plans, test procedures, and trade studies.
  • Develop and execute Test & Evaluation plans for RF test stations and field test events supporting manufacturing and fleet operations.
  • Develop and present technical reports to government and contractor stakeholders.
  • Perform modeling and simulation of RF circuits, RF propagation, and antenna performance.
