About The Position

This role requires knowledge of the overall operation of the institution, agency, and departmental organizational structure. The investigator must have a thorough understanding of safe correctional operations and the ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Strong communication skills are essential for conveying ideas and instructions clearly and concisely, along with proficiency in using computers and related equipment. The position involves preparing and maintaining accurate records, files, and reports, and effectively coordinating with various staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public. A key responsibility is supervising and providing custody and security of inmates, including observing them during activities and assigned work duties. The role also focuses on promoting positive social skills in inmates through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when necessary. Regular feedback is to be provided to staff regarding social skills, procedures, and intervention techniques. Maintaining accountability of staff, inmates, and property, and adhering to safety practices are critical. The STG Officer is also expected to perform other assigned duties within their capabilities as determined by the Jail Administrator or Warden.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two years correctional custody or law enforcement experience.
  • Successful completion of training courses and on-the-job training as required by facility training standards.
  • Ability to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and related equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Security Threat Group (STG) experience preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide custody and security of inmates including observation of inmates/detainees during activities and assigned to work duty.
  • Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
  • Provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills, procedures, and intervention techniques.
  • Maintain accountability of staff, inmates/detainees, and property; adhere to safety practices.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
  • Effectively coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by the Jail Administrator or Warden.
