About The Position

This position is responsible to lead the Nutrition Steward team when other leadership is not on-site while fulfilling the role of the Nutrition Steward. Resolves immediate issues regarding sanitizing procedures, workflow and rearranging staffing as needed. Escalates to manager as appropriate. This position is responsible for dishwashing and other general housekeeping tasks to maintain the Culinary Department in a sanitary, safe, and attractive condition and to meet hospital, Health Department and Joint Commission standards.

Requirements

  • Food Handler Permit or ServSafe certification is required by first day of work (required).
  • ServSafe certification obtained within 90 days of hire date if not current.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates ability to read color coded labels and chemicals as well as following written and verbal directions
  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
  • Occasional interaction with customers that requires employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy.
  • Frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment.
  • Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment.
  • Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items up to 50 pounds.
  • Remain standing for long periods of time to perform work.
  • Tolerate extremes in temperature such as performing work around dish machines and tolerate exposure to cleaning chemicals.

Nice To Haves

  • One or more year of experience in food service (preferred).
  • Demonstrate ability to operate housekeeping equipment and dish machine (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Leads and maintains workflow of assigned area and ensures tasks are completed.
  • Cleans and sanitizes dishes
  • Collects carts with patient trays from hospital floors.
  • Cleans and disinfects assigned areas including dining areas using department cleaning procedures.
  • Uses cleaning chemicals properly according to Joint Commission and OSHA standards.
  • Understands procedures and properly disposes of infectious waste and trash.
  • Operates and maintains assigned equipment (e.g. commercial dishwasher) according to established procedures.
  • Supports a disciplined environment and provides after hours supervision in the absence of the supervisor
