About The Position

The Steward/Dishwasher is responsible for cleaning and clearing tables, work stations, and the overall kitchen area while maintaining a high standard of sanitation and cleanliness. This role involves operating dishwashing machinery, manually cleaning pots and pans, polishing silverware, and maintaining the dish room and kitchen equipment in good condition. The position also includes general cleaning duties such as mopping floors, wiping surfaces, and managing trash disposal to ensure a sanitary work environment and compliance with health regulations.

Requirements

  • Some High school education or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience preferred.
  • Must have vision ability to see minute objects at arm’s length, to read meters and controls.
  • Must have finger, hand and upper body dexterity to grasp dishes, push, pull, carry and lift racks, carts, and large trash bins.
  • Must be able to understand and follow written or verbal instruction or instruction by example.
  • Ability to keep breakage to a minimum by handling china, glassware and fragile equipment with care.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers all dirty dishware from tubs, rinses and stacks in dish racks for automated washing.
  • Loads full dish racks onto the belt and ensures correct placement for the dishwashing machine.
  • Operates an automatic dish wash machine using controls as instructed.
  • Loads dishwashing solutions into automatic dispensers and adjusts controls for detergent and chemical output.
  • Manually scrubs pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment that cannot be washed automatically.
  • Inspects items for cleanliness, manually dries with hand towels, and stores them in correct places.
  • Manually polishes all silver, stainless steel, and pewter used in food service.
  • Maintains automatic dishwashing equipment in good working order according to manufacturer instructions.
  • Keeps the dish room clean and orderly by sweeping, mopping, emptying trash, wiping counters, and organizing shelves.
  • Mops kitchen floors as requested and at the end of each shift.
  • Cleans all kitchen work surfaces, including walls, ceilings, hoods, vents, and ovens, as regularly scheduled.
  • Gathers all trash cans from kitchen work areas at the end of each shift and empties them into the outside trash compactor.
  • Sweeps loading dock and kitchen entrance areas, clearing litter and debris to trash bins.
