About The Position

The Pharmacy Department at Hartford Hospital utilizes a decentralized model with pharmacists embedded on medical teams to advice on optimal drug therapy. We also have an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited Pharmacy Residency program, an active Oncology infusion service, and a Retail/Specialty outpatient pharmacy. The Sterile Products Pharmacy Technicians assist Pharmacists in the preparation of non-hazardous and hazardous (oncology) sterile medications. Responsibilities include but, are not limited to the following: Prepares non-hazardous sterile product preparations (e.g. IV medications) adhering to department SOPs. Prepares hazardous sterile product preparations (e.g. chemo therapy medications) using all appropriate personal protective equipment adhering to department SOPs. Properly uses all IV room equipment to prepare assigned compounds in a sterile environment. Assists with cleaning of IV and anterooms as assigned. Records all required environmental monitoring of IV workspace as assigned Restocks IV rooms with an appropriate amount of supplies to meet USP standards and expectations as assigned. Maintains skill and competency in sterile product preparation by completing required education modules and required testing.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required or equivalent.
  • Pharmacy registration with Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection within 30 days of hire and by March 31st of each year.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of Pharmacy Technician program.
  • Prior experience in a sterile compounding environment.
  • Current National Pharmacy Technician Certification.
