About The Position

South Shore Health is seeking a detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician to support the preparation, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment. This role is crucial for maintaining patient safety and surgical excellence within the organization. The technician will be responsible for ensuring all instruments and equipment are properly decontaminated, inspected, assembled, and sterilized according to established standards and protocols. They will also maintain accurate documentation of sterilization processes and equipment monitoring, adhering strictly to infection control and safety guidelines. Collaboration with the Operating Room staff and other departments is essential to ensure timely case readiness.

Requirements

  • Prior 2+ years sterile processing experience in hospital setting required
  • Completion of or enrollment in Sterile Processing Technician certification program required
  • Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, case cart assembly and aseptic technique preferred.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and possess excellent customer service skills.
  • Must agree to obtain CRCST certification within the first 24 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment according to established standards and protocols
  • Ensure proper functioning and cleanliness of all instrumentation
  • Prepare and distribute case carts and supplies for surgical procedures
  • Maintain accurate documentation of sterilization processes and equipment monitoring
  • Adhere to infection control and safety guidelines at all times
  • Collaborate with Operating Room staff and other departments to ensure timely case readiness
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of all sterilization functions and control methods.
  • Performs all assigned duties while in assembly/packing area with demonstrated understanding of guidelines and principles for Sterile Processing.
  • Performs all assigned duties while in the decontamination area with demonstrated understanding of CDC mandates and department guidelines.
  • Performs and accurately documents testing of all sterilizers.
  • Performs all required steps in the operation of a case cart system.
  • Participates in maintaining proper inventory levels of supplies.
  • Embraces technological solutions to work processes and practices.

  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and set priorities to meet the needs of the customer.

Benefits

  • Pay Range: $23.30 - $33.30
