This role is responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instruments and medical equipment. The goal is to ensure their proper functionality and sterility to prevent infection within a healthcare facility, adhering to strict guidelines and protocols established by regulatory agencies. The position involves collecting used and contaminated equipment, manually cleaning supplies, operating decontamination and sterilization equipment, preparing and packing supplies for sterilization, and meticulously examining supplies to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized. The technician will also test and report any issues with sterilization equipment, organize equipment into instrument trays, prepare and deliver necessary equipment for surgeries and procedures, and maintain records of sterilization procedures and equipment maintenance. Inventory control, reordering supplies, and checking expiration dates are also key responsibilities. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.
