The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instruments and medical equipment. This role ensures the proper functionality and sterility of these items to prevent infection within a healthcare facility, adhering to strict guidelines and protocols established by regulatory agencies. The position involves collecting used and contaminated equipment, manually cleaning supplies, operating and maintaining decontamination equipment, preparing and packing supplies for sterilization, and monitoring and operating sterilization equipment. Additionally, the technician will act as a preceptor for new employees, meticulously examine supplies, test and report issues with sterilization equipment, sterilize and organize equipment into instrument trays, prepare and deliver necessary equipment for medical procedures, maintain records of sterilization procedures and equipment maintenance, and control inventory, reorder supplies, and check expiration dates. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment, and the employee is accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
