About The Position

Sterile Processing Technicians (SPTs) play a critical role in patient safety and surgical excellence at UVA Health, a leading academic medical center. The available locations include the Battle Building at UVA Children's Hospital, UVA Orthopedic Center, and UVA Fontaine Research Park. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Sterile Processing experience preferred but not required for entry-level opportunities.
  • Certification through HSPA (CRCST) or CBSPD is preferred for qualified candidates and may be required for advancement within the Sterile Processing career ladder.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to patient safety.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • 1 year or relevant experience preferred
  • No certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification through HSPA (CRCST) or CBSPD is preferred for qualified candidates and may be required for advancement within the Sterile Processing career ladder.

Responsibilities

  • Perform decontamination, cleaning, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Prepare and assemble surgical trays following established tray listings.
  • Operate and monitor sterilization equipment and document all parameters to ensure compliance and safety.
  • Maintain accurate tracking of instruments and trays using barcode systems.
  • Support Operating Room readiness by pulling cases, restocking supplies, and expediting instrumentation.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, regulated, and compliant work environment.
