This position ensures the timely availability of safe, cleaned, assembled, sterilized, and distributed surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies required for patient care. The role functions as a clinical resource within Sterile Processing and supports direct patient care activities across operative suites, clinical areas, and satellite locations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the receipt, decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, case cart preparation, and distribution of reusable medical devices and equipment in accordance with department policies, manufacturer’s instructions for use (IFUs), and applicable regulatory and accreditation standards. The position performs detailed inspection and functional testing of surgical instruments and devices to verify cleanliness, integrity, functionality, and proper assembly, ensuring instruments are in safe and appropriate condition for surgical use and patient safety. Accurate documentation and real‑time tracking of instruments, trays, and sterilization cycles are maintained using the Censitrac instrument tracking system to support traceability, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance. This role collaborates closely with perioperative and clinical partners to promote workflow efficiency, patient safety, and service excellence, and performs additional duties as assigned by the SPD Supervisor or Manager of Sterile Processing.
