About The Position

This is a part-time (20 hours per week) Sterile Processing Technician position at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital. The role requires an experienced technician with certification, involving rotation on weekends and on-call duties. The pay range is $20.80 - $31.20.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • 1 year of SPD experience.
  • Ability to communicate and follow directions.
  • Computer skills.
  • Experienced in operating sterilization equipment.
  • Certified Central Service Tech within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Decontamination of Instruments and Equipment: Wearing proper protective attire, following established procedures for decontamination, setting up and ensuring proper function of decontamination equipment, maintaining a clean work area, reporting and documenting equipment malfunctions, cleaning and disinfecting equipment and work area at shift completion, and handling infectious waste according to hospital procedure.
  • Performance of Assembly/Packaging/Wrapping: Examining instruments for cleanliness and proper function, testing all instrumentation for correct function, electrically testing instrumentation with an insulation coating, assembling instrument sets according to Censitrac Instrument Tracking system count sheets, and packaging/wrapping trays/items according to manufacturer instructions for use.
  • Validation of Sterilization Equipment: Running appropriate tests for sterilizers (biological, bowie dick), and validating/documenting sterilization cycles in Censitrac using biological, chemical, and mechanical indicators.
  • Performance of Sterilization: Scanning all items into sterilizer loads using Censitrac, labeling processed items, positioning items on sterilizer carts for sterilization, including Biological Challenge packs, observing and assessing sterilizer operation by interpreting data strips, scanning strips into Censitrac, documenting test results, and initiating recalls for failed cycles, notifying the Manager immediately.
  • Performance of Inventory/Storage/Distribution Functions: Placing sterile items for distribution, receiving supplies from warehouse and vendors, completing case carts for OR, completing case cart assembly logs and communication forms, and assisting with cleaning of storage areas and workstations.
  • Performance of Low Temperature, Sterrad, Sterilization: Ensuring items are dry before assembly, using Censitrac for assembly, wrapping or containerizing items for sterilization, running daily biological tests, labeling items, positioning items on sterilizer carts, and observing/assessing sterilizer operation by interpreting data strips, scanning strips into Censitrac, and documenting test results.
  • Demonstration of Leadership Behaviors: Assisting with adjustments in daily work assignments, observing employee activities for quality control, communicating equipment malfunctions, acting as a liaison between SPD and other departments, and assisting in maintaining SPD inventory by ordering and receiving supplies.
  • Implementation of Quality Improvement Ideas to Enhance Operation and Team Function: Presenting problem/improvement opportunities with an A3 action plan, monitoring process improvement indicators, and assisting in precepting new associates and students.
  • Communication Skill to Support the Accomplishment of Team Outcome: Understanding verbal and written instructions, communicating properly with co-workers and customers, documenting appropriately (Censitrac, Shift report), collaborating with co-workers to prioritize workload, cooperating with co-workers for productive outputs, working in all areas to accomplish daily work loads, and giving and receiving appropriate feedback.
  • Maintenance of Effective Functions in the Department: Demonstrating independent function in performing related tasks, reaching consensus with the team for productive operations, and supporting team decisions.
