Requirements

  • Reliable with consistent on-site attendance; able to work any day Sunday–Saturday including 24/7 rotational coverage.
  • Capable of working under high-stress conditions and making critical decisions in emergencies.
  • Build positive relationships with clients and colleagues while maintaining professionalism.
  • Thrive both independently and as a team player with respect and consideration for others.
  • Adapt quickly to a fast-paced hospital environment involving exposure to bloodborne pathogens, chemical disinfectants, and infectious materials.
  • Perform tasks involving bending, squatting, kneeling, crawling, and maneuvering heavy equipment.
  • Stand for extended periods and lift or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds (or more with assistance).
  • Meet vision and hearing requirements, including color recognition, essential for job duties.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, gowns, and eye protection as required.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to anticipate and respond quickly and accurately.
  • Availability for 24/7 hospital coverage, including rotational shifts on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is required for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) or Certified Surgical Technician preferred.
  • One year of experience in a sterile processing, central service, or surgical technology role is preferred, or equivalent completion of a related training program.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the handling and processing of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Requisitions, replenishes, and cleans sterilization equipment and instruments as needed.
  • Retrieves and transports soiled equipment and instruments from point of use.
  • Organizes, loads, unloads, and cleans equipment and instruments following established protocols.
  • Oversees and supports the sterilization workflow from start to finish.
  • Builds instrument trays, packages, and supply sets and readies all items for sterilization.
  • Processes instruments, equipment, and supplies through sterilization cycles; ensures proper handling and storage upon completion.
  • Conducts biological and chemical indicator testing in compliance with quality assurance protocols.
  • Performs routine tray audits to verify accuracy and completeness.
  • Collaborates with managers, supervisors, and OR staff to develop and implement service improvement strategies.
  • Maintains accurate and thorough documentation of all relevant activities.
  • Stays current with new information and applies updated procedures and equipment as introduced.
  • Acts as a welcoming and knowledgeable resource for newly onboarded team members.
  • Completes education courses and competencies as required and assigned.
  • Learn and effectively utilize all required technologies per company policy.
  • Use company devices to access systems such as ADP, Outlook, Concur, Slack, and SCMP as needed.
  • Support team and hospital operations by performing additional duties as assigned.
  • Manage company property responsibly; loss or damage may result in repayment.
