About The Position

This position is for a Sterile Processing Technician at the Oakland Oncology Surgery Center within Sutter Health. The role involves competently performing standardized instrument processing and decontamination to prevent the spread of infection, illness, or disease. The technician will work independently to support the department's functionality by disinfecting and distributing supplies, and performing equipment maintenance, testing, and setup as needed. The role requires integrating education and technical competence to execute safe and precise sterilization procedures, while adhering to all local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures to ensure privacy, safety, and optimal patient care.

Requirements

HS Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) OR Sterile Processing Certification
1-year recent relevant experience.
General knowledge of surgical tools, procedures, views, and equipment.
Ability to interpret a variety of data and instructions, furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadline.
General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook).

Responsibilities

Performs decontamination, correct assembly, and sterile processing of all surgical instrumentation used at the surgery center or hospital.
Participates in inventory control by conducting hospital rounds to collect, clean, then redistribute used supplies and order new supplies as needed.
Completes routine and priority tasks within established departmental time frames.
Maintains a clean, neat, and safe working environment, including cleaning and disinfecting equipment after each procedure.
Inspects and calibrates equipment accordingly for proper operation and records the quality control (QC) results, reporting any malfunctions to the supervisor.
Maintains, assembles, and repairs all surgical equipment as necessary in a manner that is safe and consistent with Infection Control guidelines.
Maintains strictest confidence of all patients protected health information (PHI) and protects all PHI from accidental, intentional, or inappropriate disclosure.
Performs quality work in compliance with department standards, policies, and procedures, as well as local, state and federal regulatory agencies to deliver the highest level of patient safety and care.
Retains certification and completes mandated continuing education requirements to meet facility and regulatory agencies accreditation and licensure requirements.
May perform clerical tasks such as retrieving, entering and revising patient electronic health records and collecting and organizing operation room paperwork and physician preference cards.
Prepares and completes accurate documentation related to supply inventory and orders new supplies when necessary.
