About The Position

This role assists with the daily supervision and management activities related to the Sterile Processing department. The technician is responsible for ensuring departmental compliance with regulatory agencies, including Joint Commission and Department of Health. Key duties involve the decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of supplies and equipment, following established infection control practices. The position also involves directing the work of others in the absence of management personnel, assisting with staffing and operational functions, and assuming responsibility for the department during management's absence. The role requires altering normal routines to adjust to irregular and emergent situations, and assisting and instructing in the supervision of specialized technical skills and work performance. Collaboration with the Supervisor is expected for developing quality monitors, in-service programs, and orientation programs. Additionally, the technician will assist with maintaining instrument set listings and diagrams, and participate in the interviewing and replacement of new employees. They will also assist in investigating problem areas or complaints concerning departmental operations. The technician will perform all activities of a Sterile Processing Technician, including the proper operation of decontamination and sterilization equipment, and the disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and assembly of instrument sets. Dispensing requested products via verbal, written, or telephone requisitions is also a responsibility. Staff have access to non-controlled medications storage and supply areas and can transport non-controlled medications as necessary to meet the needs of the clinic and unit. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment, and the employee is accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Active CRCST certification through Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or must meet state grandfathering guidelines.
  • Minimum of 3 years-Related work experience
  • Certified Sterile Processing Technician within 18 months - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)

Responsibilities
