This role assists with the daily supervision and management activities related to the Sterile Processing department. The technician is responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of supplies and equipment, following established infection control practices. This position also directs the work of others in the absence of management personnel and assists with staffing, planning, and management of operational functions. The technician will alter normal routines to adjust to irregular and emergent situations and will assist and instruct in the supervision of specialized technical skills, requirements, and work performance. They will work with the Supervisor in developing quality monitors, in-service programs, and orientation programs, and assist with maintaining listings and diagrams of instrument sets. Additionally, the technician will assist with interviewing and replacement of new or replacement employees and in the investigation of problem areas or complaints. This role performs all activities of a Sterile Processing Technician, including the proper operation of decontamination and sterilization equipment, disassembling, cleaning, inspecting, and assembling instrument sets, and dispensing requested products. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment, and the employee is accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
