About The Position

Performs a variety of tasks related to preparing instruments and equipment for procedures and surgeries. Operates sterilizing and decontamination units using agents that may include steam, hydrogen peroxide, peracetic acid, ethylene oxide, and glutaraldehyde. Responsibilities include instrument processing and distribution, inventory, equipment functions, and record keeping under general guidance. The role also serves as a resource to Sterile Processing Technician I staff by training new employees, answering questions, and providing accurate information about departmental procedures.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education or experience.
• Two years of experience in a Sterile Processing Department.
• Ability to serve as a resource to Sterile Processing Technician I staff by effectively training new employees and appropriately answering questions.
• Ability to provide accurate and complete information regarding departmental procedures and demonstrate good communication skills.
• Elementary computer skills for equipment and supply tracking, ordering, and preference/pick-list generation.
• Knowledge of basic inventory control concepts and PAR level systems.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, surgical instrumentation, supplies, and equipment.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with hospital employees, sales representatives, and internal and external customers.
• Ability to perform simple mathematical functions and accurately handle a large volume of detailed work.

Nice To Haves

• CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) and/or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician certification is highly recommended.
