About The Position

This is a full-time, first-shift position (8:00 am - 4:30 pm) in the Central Sterile Processing Department. Previous medical equipment/instrument sterilization experience is desired. While CRCST, RCST, CSR, or CSPDT certification is highly desired, the facility is willing to provide training to attain certification. Flexibility is required for scheduling at either the Danville or Avon location. A weeknight, weekend, and one holiday call rotation is shared among the team. This role offers an exciting opportunity for individuals interested in expanding their healthcare knowledge and career. The technician participates in delivering safe, quality patient care by providing clean, disinfected, and sterilized instruments, implants, metal goods, and equipment to hospital departments. The Certified/Registered Central Sterile technician is also responsible for providing case carts to Surgery and ChildBirth Center, and resupplying and cleaning items for all units.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must complete requirements and obtain Certified/Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of all instruments, metal goods, and equipment used for patient care.
  • Assembling and packaging of all instruments and implants and assuring that they are correctly labeled and assembled.
  • Responsible for safe operation of all equipment used for cleaning and sterilization (e.g., HIVAC sterilizer, ultrasonic cleaner, ETO, Sterrad).
  • Responsible for accurate and meticulous documentation of all sterilizer charts, record books, and biological records.
  • Responsible for checking, resupplying, and dispensing of reusable sterile and clean items to all units.
  • Responsible for understanding and appropriately following the hospital-wide Body Substance/Standard Precautions, Respiratory & AFB isolation protocols and to be compliant with the minimal protective barrier requirements for tasks performed in Central Sterile.
  • Responsible for loading and unloading all sterilizing and cleaning equipment to allow for proper steam or gas sterilization of all items.
