Requirements

  • GED or High School diploma
  • One-year certificate from college or technical school
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as an SP tech.
  • CPR certification required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a lead sterile processing CRCST

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of prior supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the decontamination, cleaning, prepping, and sterilization of surgical instruments, reusable supplies, and equipment.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization equipment and its use in the decontamination/sterilization processing area.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the SP technician duties, including: Understanding the use and handling of chemicals used in the SP area, Commitment to following the recommended instructions for decontaminating, cleaning, sonification, drying, flushing, sterilizing, etc., items in the SP area, Use of appropriate biological and chemical monitoring with documentation of such, rotating of processed instruments, inspection of said items.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to follow "Instructions For Use" (IFU) information from manufacturers related to all items that flow through the SP area.
  • Create a staff schedule based on the center's daily volume and adjust accordingly.
  • Ensure loaner trays are properly documented upon tray arrival and departure from the center.
  • Monitor the surgical schedule to anticipate instrumentation, equipment, and reusable medical supply needs.
  • Remove defective items from service and replace missing items, and when items are missing.
  • Maintains the most up-to-date tray count sheets and ensures they are placed in every tray.
  • Maintains accurate, detailed documentation.
  • Assist in cost-saving initiatives by ordering supplies based on the center's projected volume.
  • Assist in the training of any newly hired SPD staff.
  • Pursues additional knowledge and training to remain current on standards and regulations relating to the sterile processing area.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, center/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
  • Follows the center exposure control plans/blood-borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a center team to facilitate the center's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
  • Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
