Surgical Services - Sterile Processing Tech (SPT)
About The Position
The Sterile Processing Tech works in Surgical Services at a busy Level One trauma facility. The role covers all areas of the department, including decontamination, instrument assembly, sterilization, high-level disinfection and scope processing, sterile storage, and OR liaison work. The position is scheduled Monday through Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with occasional scheduled holidays, and may require floating to other locations. Candidates must have at least three years of experience in a facility similar to OSU. Eligibility restrictions apply: former permanent staff and return travelers are not eligible for return anywhere in the system. Return travelers are clinicians who have taken an assignment at any location and are reapplying within the OSU umbrella. Travelers who reach the one-year maximum contract limit are not eligible for extensions or future assignments.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in a facility similar to OSU.
- Experience in all areas of the sterile processing department, including decontamination, instrument assembly, sterilization, high-level disinfection and scope processing, sterile storage, and OR liaison work.
- Certification through either CBSPD or CRCST through HSPA (formerly IAHCSMM).
- Former permanent staff and return travelers are not eligible for return anywhere in the system.
- Travelers who reach the one-year maximum contract limit are not eligible for extensions or future assignments.
Responsibilities
- Decontaminate all items, including drills, Da Vinci equipment, and scopes.
- Assemble instruments across all service lines, including trauma instruments, loaners, and peel packaging.
- Perform sterilization processes using Sterrad and steam.
- Perform high-level disinfection and scope processing.
- Manage sterile storage.
- Serve as an OR liaison.
- Use the Censitrac tracking system.
- Float to other locations as required.
