About The Position

As a senior member of the sterile processing team at Salem Hospital, the Sterile Processing Tech III ensures surgical instruments and equipment are decontaminated, assembled, and sterilized to high standards. The role supports patient safety and operational efficiency in a fast-paced surgical environment by collaborating with surgical teams, supporting quality improvement, guiding lower-level technicians, and coordinating complex vendor instrumentation workflows.

The position is full-time, 40 hours per week, on an evening schedule Monday through Thursday, 11:00 AM to 10:30 PM. It is based at Salem Hospital in Salem, Oregon.

Requirements

• Current Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification or current Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) certification.
• At least 2 years of related experience with surgical instrumentation in a hospital sterile processing environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform all Sterile Processing Tech I and II duties, including decontamination and sterilization of instruments and equipment.
• Inspect, assemble, and prepare surgical instruments, trays, and packs.
• Fill and deliver surgical case carts according to procedure requirements.
• Identify and report equipment, supply, or procedural issues.
• Assist in training and supporting Sterile Processing staff.
• Follow policies and standards for biological and chemical monitoring, safety, and infection control.
• Clean and decontaminate used items using manual and mechanical methods.
• Assemble, sterilize, store, and handle surgical instrument trays and supplies.
• Maintain expert knowledge of sterile processing practices and instrument classification.
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and cross-functional projects.
• Coordinate vendor instrument sets for surgical cases, including check-in/check-out and documentation.
• Collaborate with OR staff and verify usage instructions for all loaner instruments.
