About The Position

The Sterile Processing Tech II is responsible for assembling general and specialty instruments and sets, decontaminating instruments, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives. This role involves ensuring the proper functioning and availability of surgical instrumentation, acting as a resource for instrument identification and use, and maintaining a safe and efficient sterile processing environment. The position also includes demonstrating leadership behaviors by assisting with work assignments, monitoring procedures, and communicating effectively with management and other departments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • 2 years of SPD experience.
  • Registered/Certified Sterile Processing Tech.
  • Ability to communicate and follow directions.
  • Computer skills.
  • Experienced in operating sterilization equipment.
  • Registered Central Service Tech.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles general and specialty instruments and sets, examining them for cleanliness, proper assembly, and performance.
  • Assembles instrument sets according to established lists, ensuring correct count and placement for sterilization and ease of use.
  • Checks instrument performance and identifies repair needs.
  • Acts as a resource on instrument identification, appropriate use, location, and availability.
  • Assists with adjustments in daily work assignments to compensate for workflow fluctuations.
  • Observes activities to ensure established procedures are followed for quality control.
  • Monitors activities in CPD, on weekends and holidays, ensuring effective and efficient operation.
  • Notifies manager of any problems that occur during the shift.
  • Communicates ideas for revision of policy and/or procedure.
  • Assists in ensuring equipment is properly functioning by communicating malfunctions and filling out appropriate work orders.
  • Acts as a liaison between CPD and other departments to interpret and communicate problems.
  • Assists in maintaining CPD inventory by ordering and receiving supplies and maintaining paperwork.
  • Demonstrates independent function in decontaminating soiled instrumentation to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Wears proper protective attire when performing decontamination.
  • Follows established procedures to ensure decontamination completion and correctness.
  • Sets up decontamination equipment for operation and ensures proper function and continuous workflow.
  • Maintains a neat and clean work area at all times.
  • Reports improper equipment operation to the person in charge.
  • Handles infectious waste according to established hospital procedure.
  • Identifies and discusses problem/improvement opportunities with the manager.
  • Presents problem/improvement opportunities with an action plan.
  • Assists in revision of policy and/or procedures.
  • Monitors quality assurance indicators and reports findings.
  • Assists in precepting and/or training of new technicians.
