Requirements

  • On an on-going basis the incumbent must obtain the mandatory number of continued educational units (CEU’s) needed to maintain the currency of certification.
  • Requires advanced and demonstrated knowledge and understanding of sterile processing principles.
  • Requires good problem-solving techniques.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak clearly using the English language.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Certification in Sterile Processing through a nationally accredited central service organization such as the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Healthcare & Sterile Processing Association (IAHCSMM) is required. (CRCST or CBSPD accepted.)
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, maintain a driving record free of any violations and pass a safe driving educational program upon hire and annually thereafter in order to participate in the Fleet Vehicle Program.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Sterile Processing Technician I.

Nice To Haves

  • Personal computer skill and experience is desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for de-contamination, processing, assembling and sterilizing instruments and equipment.
  • Responsible for the disinfection and restocking of Isolation, Emergency Carts and other patient care equipment.
  • Works within the guidelines for infection control, JCAHO, OSHA and AAMI to assure sterility of supplies, to provide and maintain necessary levels.
  • Provides leadership and expertise to staff members in the absence of Management.
  • Communicate efficiently with staff.
