About The Position

The Sterile Processing Technician 2 cleans, sterilizes, processes, arranges, and distributes patient equipment. The role prepares and organizes instruments, equipment, treatment trays, and supplies according to department needs; cleans instruments and equipment with approved detergents and disinfectants; and operates sterilization equipment according to guidelines. The technician also manages inventory by ordering, replenishing, and distributing instruments, reusable medical equipment, and supplies for general and surgical use. The position follows safety, environmental, and infection-control requirements and may mentor and train Sterile Processing Technician 1 staff.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
One year of experience.
Hold one of the following certifications: CBSPD, CRCST, CSPDT, or CST.
Familiarity with equipment and instrument sterilization techniques and procedures.
Understanding of simple medical terminology.
Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, including tact when dealing with patients and colleagues.
Adherence to best-practice safety measures, environmental protocols, manufacturers' guidelines, and infection-control practices.

Responsibilities

Prepare and arrange rooms by organizing instruments, equipment, treatment trays, and supplies based on department needs.
Clean instruments and equipment using approved detergents and disinfectants.
Operate sterilization equipment according to guidelines.
Order, replenish, and distribute instruments, reusable medical equipment, and supplies for general and surgical use.
Follow safety, environmental, and infection-control rules and practices.
Share skills with team members and offer in-service training sessions.
Assist with training Sterile Processing staff and mentor entry-level positions.
