About The Position

The Sterile Processing Manager is responsible for leading the full range of sterile processing services within SPCC, oversees departmental performance, and analyzes the effectiveness of departmental processes. Under the direction of and in collaboration with the Director, this leader contributes to the development and execution of the vision for clinical excellence; ensures that high-quality services are provided; and leads operational functions at top levels of efficiency. The role requires a full scope of knowledge to perform all aspects of sterile processing at an advanced level. The Sterile Processing Manager will monitor the performance of staff, supervisors, and assistant managers with respect to compliance and safety, ensuring that standards of operation are in compliance with professional regulatory and accrediting body standards. This leader will interface with various stakeholders interacting with the SPCC department, i.e., leaders, surgeons and staff from the operating rooms, patient care floors, and procedural suites, facilities, environmental services, infection control clinicians, the biomedical department, vendors, supply chain management personnel, and so on. This leader bears responsibility for ensuring smooth interdepartmental processes and managing relationships with these stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Full scope of knowledge to perform all aspects of sterile processing at an advanced level.
  • Monitor the performance of staff, supervisors and assistant managers with respect to compliance and safety, ensuring that standards of operation are in compliance with professional regulatory and accrediting body standards.
  • Interface with various stakeholders interacting with the SPCC department, i.e., leaders, surgeons and staff from the operating rooms, patient care floors, and procedural suites, facilities, environmental services, infection control clinicians, the biomedical department, vendors, supply chain management personnel, and so on.
  • Ensuring smooth interdepartmental processes and managing relationships with these stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.

  • Communicates with and supports the interprofessional team, and designated care partners.
  • Serve as a resource of sterile processing expertise within the department.
  • Oversees staff scheduling and payroll, monitors departmental overtime.
  • Assists director with capital budget and operational budget planning.
  • Ensures a high level of customer service and productivity for the department as a whole.
  • Engages in complex problem solving.
  • Monitors productivity and huddle report trends to identify process or system issues; collaborate with director to develop and initiate process improvement initiatives to resolve issues.
  • Engages in continuous process improvement by evaluating the success of new initiatives or processes, and adjusting when needed.
  • Oversees the activities of the department to ensure that staff, leadership, department and operating room needs are satisfied.
  • Leads department and hospital process improvement initiatives.
  • Maintains knowledge and ability to ensure verification of pre and post sterilization quality indicators.
  • Reports any issues or problems with the sterilization equipment to appropriate SPD leadership.
  • Responsible for data mining, analytics and reporting that lead to process improvement or workflow improvements.
