About The Position

The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician, under general supervision, follows robust processes in Decontamination, Processing, and Sterilization by cleaning instruments and equipment, ensuring that all items are free of any bioburden. They inspect, function test, and assemble instruments and equipment for High Level Disinfection or Sterilization. The technician must always follow the Manufacturer's Instructions for Use in Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection & Sterilization, as well as Department and Hospital Processes and Policies. The role requires accurate maintenance of required documentation on written logs and/or computer systems, including processes in Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection or Sterilization, and Sterile Processing Department Equipment. The technician must be able to prioritize instrumentation for processing, answer telephones, and dispatch instrumentation, equipment, and supplies. Duties are performed in a manner consistent with Mercy's Mission, Values, and Service Standards. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent
Basic computer skills
Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
Must interact with staff and co-workers across a diverse range of disciplines.
Must be able to follow directions.
Must be able to operate equipment.
Frequent high/mid/low level lift of items weighing around 25 pounds.
Frequent hand coordination.

Responsibilities

Cleaning instruments and equipment, ensuring they are free of bioburden.
Inspecting, function testing, and assembling instruments and equipment for High Level Disinfection or Sterilization.
Following Manufacturer's Instructions for Use and Department and Hospital Processes and Policies.
Accurately maintaining required documentation on written logs and/or computer systems.
Prioritizing instrumentation for processing.
Answering telephones and dispatching instrumentation, equipment, and supplies.
Performing duties in a manner consistent with Mercy's Mission, Values, and Service Standards.
Performing other duties as assigned.
