About The Position

This role is responsible for coordinating the orientation process and providing in-department and on-the-unit education for new equipment, products, and procedures. The Sterile Processing Educator develops and delivers system educational programs on proper decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization methods. They also manage the Instrument Asset Management System, including user information, security levels, sterilization documentation, instrument set lists, item catalog, system images, repair and maintenance, and inventory levels. The position involves collaborating with management, mentoring staff, and participating in performance improvement activities. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.

Requirements

• Three years related work experience
• Active CRCST AND Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) or Certified Endoscopy Reprocessor (CER), or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the orientation process and provide in-department and on-the-unit education of new equipment products and procedures.
• Develop and provide system educational programs regarding proper decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization methods.
• Coordinate the orientation process through active involvement with orientee and preceptor.
• Collaborate with the management team in the selection of preceptor.
• Coordinate schedules for required classes with the preceptor.
• Assess progress of orientation by follow-up with orientee and preceptor.
• Identify educational needs and assist with plan development to meet needs.
• Provide support of preceptor throughout the orientation process.
• Function as a mentor.
• Provide ongoing education based on individual department needs, staff request, and management request.
• Provide ongoing education of proper technique for decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization to clinics and inpatient units based on individual unit needs, staff request, and management request.
• Assist staff with education of new equipment and instrumentation, products, procedures, and handling emergencies.
• Facilitate, support, and provide required education by identifying and communicating relevant in-services.
• Monitor individual compliance of required elements.
• Foster growth of individual staff members through mentoring.
• Establish educational opportunities for all staff through workshops, computer-based programs, articles, and videos.
• Collaborate with the department management team to foster department growth, identify educational needs, and develop plans related to process improvement.
• Coordinate annual staff competency assessment.
• Participate in performance improvement activities.
• Manage all Instrument Asset Management System information including: User information, Security levels, Sterilization documentation, Instrument Set Lists, Item catalog, System images, Repair and Maintenance, and inventory levels.
• Coordinate system information with Operating Room and Purchasing systems as appropriate.
• Manage individual instrument and set labeling.
• Produce reports on an ad hoc and periodic basis.
• Manage implementation of system upgrades.
• Communicate with Information Technology department.
• Assist with hardware and software support.
• Create and distribute system documentation.
• Manage end-user training.
• Delegate system duties appropriately in conjunction with Central Sterile and Operating Room management.
