This role is responsible for promoting and supporting an environment conducive to staff growth, development, and autonomy within the Sterile Processing Department (SPD). The Educator will coordinate and implement the SPD orientation program, provide competency-based education, and foster ongoing professional development for associates. They will also develop, monitor, and evaluate the role of unit-based preceptors. The Educator will orient new associates to department policies, procedures, and specific SPD functions, including Decontamination, Instrument Assembly, Sterilization, Case Cart Assembly, and Equipment handling. Additionally, the Educator will demonstrate, explain, and monitor the activities of new orientees and personnel seeking advancement. In collaboration with the manager, this role manages processes that support patient care delivery to optimize patient outcomes, customer satisfaction, and resource management. This includes communicating changes in practice, monitoring compliance with regulatory requirements, serving as a clinical resource and mentor, and monitoring customer satisfaction. The Educator will also participate in goal setting and process improvement initiatives and support affiliated schools. The role also involves staying current on sterilization standards, participating in professional growth activities, partnering with Infection Control, and promoting staff certification. The Educator will perform all SPD Tech I and II accountabilities when assigned and act as a resource on instrument identification, use, location, and availability.
