About The Position

This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by coordinating the cleaning, wrapping, and maintenance of sterile supplies/instruments for the operating room and other appropriate business. Will also be responsible for education of outside facilities as well as the biological monitoring. This individual functions as a resource person and liaison between Mercy and outside organizations who are utilizing the Central Sterile business.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of sterilization and compliance for reprocessing.

  • Knowledge of Aseptic Technique.
  • Knowledge of incubators and parameters.
  • Has knowledge of disposable vs single use instrumentation.
  • Significant attention to detail.
  • 3 years Central Sterile experience required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Applicant must have or obtain 4 certifications from Healthcare Sterile Processing Association or Certified Board for Sterile Processing Distribution with 1.5 years of date of hire.
  • Current and valid driver's license, own transportation and automobile insurance required and must be maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with ordering requested instruments for outside facilities.
  • Help manage outside facilities inventory when necessary.
  • Precepts new staff to the program.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and trouble shooting skills of different types of sterilization equipment.
  • Availability to travel to clinics when necessary.
  • Availability for on call when necessary.
  • Responsible for work cell phone if needed.
  • Attends meetings as necessary.
  • Participates in decision making activities related to the evaluation of outside facilities processes and their instrument inventory.
  • Help deliver educational information to facilities on sterilization processes.
  • Provide safe, functional, and timely instrumentation to outside facilities.
  • Champion of Data entry into the instrument tracking system.
  • Work with the facilities to get their instruments or test results in a timely manner.
  • Assist with managing instrument and test result information, repairs, refurbishing, introduction of new items, deletion of instruments and replacement systems for damaged or missing instrumentation in the clinic setting.
  • Must work well with others and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Participate in IFU review team.
  • Safe handling of test strips.
  • Maintains knowledge and education on Mercy’s CS Business Website.
  • Obtain test results and manages test result data.
  • Ordering testing supplies/ supplies for the department.
  • Demonstrates Interpersonal relationships in the department and with consumers.
  • Maintain knowledge on how to decontamination, assemble and sterilize instruments for outside facilities along with adding the correct parameters for new instruments coming into the clinics per their IFU.
  • Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.
