About The Position

In a Covestro STEM Internship, you will work closely with industry leaders and scientists within one of Covestro's Business Entities. You will gain knowledge about Covestro products, including their chemistry, applications, end uses, customer base, and future business opportunities. This internship offers hands-on experience in a research and development environment, providing a close-up view of technical and commercial operations. You will apply your knowledge to real R&D projects, supporting new product/technology development that addresses real-world problems. Opportunities range from next-generation elastomers to materials for insulation and high-performance coatings, encouraging creativity, imagination, analytical thinking, and precision in groundbreaking R&D. You will contribute to ongoing projects, gaining insight into how Covestro identifies customer needs and manages product flow in the marketplace. The internship program is scheduled to begin in mid-May of 2027 and will last approximately 12 weeks.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program with a focus on Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer / Material Science, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Completion of Freshman year.
  • Willingness and ability to be placed in any of the aforementioned internship opportunities.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Demonstrated PC skills and ability to work within Microsoft Office programs, specifically Excel.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills including an ability to interact and establish strong working relationships with diverse individuals.
  • Project coordination with the ability to be proactive and identify creative, effective technical solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of Sophomore year preferred.
  • Prior internship/work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting business entities' new application and product development teams through formulation, processing, design, and testing of Covestro materials and applications.
  • Conducting lab evaluation projects.
  • Performing lab analyses and trials for process optimization.
  • Evaluating raw materials.
  • Troubleshooting new products and plant operations to develop, improve, and service company products.
  • Evaluating potential products, raw materials, and equipment through lab bench work.
  • Supporting new development initiatives.
  • Working on internal projects related to part design, reaction or formulation chemistry in the laboratory, molding, and finished part testing.
