About The Position

This position involves teaching the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Gateway to Technology (GTT) program and the PLTW: Engineering course, Introduction to Engineering (IED), to middle school students. The GTT program introduces students to STEM concepts through hands-on, project-based learning, fostering critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork. The role is for a 10-month, exempt position with a salary scale of EACC, U1.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher and meets certification requirements as established by the Maryland State Department of Education required.
  • Knowledge of subject matter and appropriate instructional methodologies.
  • Evidence of exemplary human relation skills.
  • Evidence of exemplary organizational and planning skills.
  • Evidence of ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Completed coursework in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) preferred.
  • Experience in STEM-related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver PLTW GTT modules such as Design and Modeling, Automation and Robotics, App Creators, Energy and the Environment, 4Flight and Space, Green Architecture, and/or Computer Science for Innovators and Makers.
  • Deliver the PLTW: Engineering course Introduction to Engineering (IED).
  • Implement PLTW curriculum with fidelity, ensuring alignment with national, state, and local standards.
  • Use hands-on, project-based teaching strategies to engage students in STEM content.
  • Facilitate a student-centered classroom that promotes inquiry, exploration, and innovation.
  • Manage and maintain classroom equipment, including 3D printers, robotics kits, and computers.
  • Provide a safe, supportive, and respectful learning environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate STEM concepts across disciplines.
  • Attend and complete PLTW training and professional development as required.
  • Plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students.
  • Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings.
  • Monitors and evaluates student outcomes.
  • Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community.
  • Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
  • Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of children.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices.
  • Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
  • Serves on special committees.
  • Other duties as prescribed by Maryland State Law, Board of Education policy, Negotiated Agreement and Building Principal.
  • Assists students in developing critical-thinking abilities by gaining an understanding of the content’s concepts.
