About The Position

Provide in-person, personalized one-to-one math and/or chemistry tutoring for middle and high school students. Topics include Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and General, Honors, and AP Chemistry. Tutors help students understand complex concepts, complete homework and lab reports, prepare for tests, and develop effective study strategies. Instruction is tailored to each student's learning style, needs, and goals, while encouraging confidence and a positive mindset toward STEM subjects. Tutors submit session notes and communicate student progress with families and the office. The role is part-time, offers flexible scheduling, and requires a minimum three-month commitment. Sessions take place in students' homes in Carlsbad and surrounding areas.

Requirements

Strong knowledge of math and/or chemistry at the middle or high school level.
Reliable transportation for in-home sessions in Carlsbad and surrounding areas.
Professional, punctual, and dependable work habits.
Minimum three-month commitment.

Nice To Haves

Prior tutoring or teaching experience.
Coursework, a degree, or professional background in a STEM field.
Bachelor's degree or current enrollment in a STEM or education-related program.
After-school availability, typically 3–7 p.m.; daytime availability is a plus.

Responsibilities

Provide personalized, one-to-one tutoring in math and/or chemistry for middle and high school students.
Explain complex concepts such as stoichiometry, balancing equations, the periodic table, functions, and problem solving in ways that build understanding.
Support homework, lab reports, test preparation including AP exams and SAT/ACT math, and study strategies.
Tailor instruction to each student's learning style, needs, and goals.
Build students' confidence and encourage a positive mindset toward STEM subjects.
Submit session notes and communicate student progress with families and the office.
