About The Position

The Steel Shop Welder performs welding duties at erection sites, often at extreme heights, according to specifications and using SMAW welding equipment. The role supports safe work practices and the production of high-quality products by following all safety and quality rules and processes. The welder also assists the erection crew with related duties when available and performs other duties as directed by the Supervisor.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
1–3 years of experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be or become Tindall Certified in SMAW 3F and 4F.

Responsibilities

Follow all safety and quality rules and processes.
Clean connection plates with a chipping hammer and/or grinder.
Climb ladders with welding leads to connect panels together with weld connections, including at extreme heights.
Read blueprints, drawings, and weld symbols to determine specific welding requirements.
Drill holes for red head bolts in foundations, install red heads, bolt clip angles to foundations, and weld angles to panels.
Alleviate bad joints by using a hand wrench to pull panels together for weld connections.
Weld haunch and base plates on members at job sites when required.
Weld connection plates on panels, beams, columns, and double tees as needed.
Weld carbon plate-to-plate fillet and groove joints.
Assist the erection crew with duties when available, such as grouting and positioning members.
Maintain a strong understanding of Tindall welding and grouting procedures.
Perform miscellaneous duties as directed by the Supervisor.
