About The Position

The Steel Manufacturing Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing their area of responsibility at their respective site. This role will include consistently managing multiple priorities across the entire shop floor. There is also a high level of leadership and guidance required for their direct reports.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Leadership skills to motivate employees.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and account for your actions.
  • Ability to influence others to perform their jobs effectively and to be responsible for making decisions.
  • Ability to adapt to change in the workplace.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 5 years welding experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Lean manufacturing experience preferred.
  • CNC controls experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in building a strong culture to positively impact site yearly retention goals.
  • Support and strive for safety in all areas of the site, including resolving safety problems and completing required paperwork.
  • Actively participate in employee yearly goal check-ins and annual performance reviews.
  • Drive employee engagement by hosting one-on-one discussions with leads and shop floor employees.
  • Manage time and labor, including reviewing and correcting labor time reporting, approving PTO requests, and approving bi-weekly time sheets for Payroll.
  • Review and correct labor reporting in jobs in the ERP system.
  • Develop "in the moment" decisions that affect shop throughput.
  • Set weekly production objectives and communicate them to shop floor employees.
  • Supervise direct staff to produce manufactured products, organize and monitor workflow on the shop floor.
  • Accomplish production results by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, and reviewing results, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Perform new hire interviews, select, develop training plans, and assist mentoring new employees.
  • Maintain workflow by monitoring and upgrading processes, observing control points and equipment, monitoring personnel and resources, studying methods, and fostering a spirit of cooperation.
  • Complete the production plan by adhering to the production schedule, assigning personnel, accomplishing work results, establishing priorities, monitoring progress, revising schedules, resolving problems, and reporting results.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of equipment and resources, and maintaining compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Resolve personnel problems by analyzing data, investigating issues, identifying solutions, and recommending action.
  • Contribute to a team approach by accomplishing related results.
  • Monitor production processes to ensure they are operating safely and efficiently and identify areas for improvement.
  • Coordinate and assign tasks to production staff and ensure appropriate training.
  • Conduct regular equipment and machinery inspections and coordinate with maintenance staff for repairs and servicing.
  • Coordinate and/or verify material requirements.
  • Apply root cause analysis and participate in closing site Corrective Actions (CA’s) and Non-Conformances (NC’s).
  • Conduct "Toolbox" safety topic discussions weekly with the Safety Coordinator.
  • Maintain prompt and dependable attendance and work flexible hours including overtime or weekends, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
