About The Position

TruGreen Metal is a mobile scrap metal recycling company that brings the recycling facility to the customer. Since 2015, TruGreen has served over 11,000 customers across Saskatchewan, Alberta, Western Manitoba and Northern BC, recycling over 950 million pounds of steel products. The company prides itself on exceptional customer service and employee passion. This full-time position is based out of Brandon, Manitoba, with travel throughout the province, primarily in the Parkland Region. The Steel Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing ferrous scrap materials to support the mobile scrap business. This role focuses on building strong customer relationships, negotiating competitive pricing, and ensuring a consistent, cost-effective flow of steel scrap. The Steel Buyer collaborates with operations, logistics, and sales to balance volume, quality, and margin.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in B2B sales.
  • Must be a self-starter and goal-oriented with the drive to hit KPIs.
  • Take pride and accountability in your work.
  • Excellent communicator who works best in a team environment.
  • Ability to enjoy change and be adaptable.
  • Use problem-solving skills while using good judgment.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding duties, including lifting 50lbs or more, climbing ladders, walking long distances, and frequent bending and picking up objects off the ground.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.
  • Successfully complete pre-employment screening including drug and alcohol testing.
  • Successfully complete a background check.
  • Work extended hours and travel to various work sites across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba with regular overnight stays away from home.
  • Work a schedule of 5 on, 2 off or 10 on, 4 off.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in agriculture, trades, or oil & gas is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute a productive daily schedule independently, with a minimum of five customer visits per day.
  • Prioritize activities to maximize time in the field and material secured.
  • Ensure tasks are completed fully before moving on to the next activity.
  • Actively source scrap metal through existing leads, supplier relationships, cold calling, and in-person prospecting.
  • Visit industrial sites, yards, and businesses to identify scrap opportunities.
  • Build and maintain ongoing relationships with customers.
  • Proactively create buying opportunities through grassroots marketing efforts, including posting a minimum of three signs per day and distributing posters.
  • Identify high-potential locations and areas for visibility and outreach.
  • Accurately record all activities, leads, and results using Trello and internal tracker sheets.
  • Complete data entry daily to ensure up-to-date reporting and accountability.
