About The Position

The Steam Turbine low-temp structures Principal Engineer serves as a recognized subject matter expert across low-temp structures (LP Hoods, Bearings, Pedestals, & Turning Gear) and provides advanced technical leadership to the Engineering team. This role is responsible for driving engineering excellence, supporting mid-level complexity projects, and mentoring next generation engineers. The Principal Engineer collaborates cross-functionally to drive risk management while fostering innovative solutions to meet business and customer solutions.

Requirements

  • Major experience in Engineering/Technology & Services Engineering.
  • Knowledge level is comparable to a Master’s degree from an accredited university or college
  • Demonstrated expertise in subject matter area applying fundamentals of Mechanical Design, including: material properties, statics/dynamics, strength of materials, fluid dynamics, lifing methods related to fatigue (LCF & HCF), Stress/Strain, Heat Transfer.
  • Working knowledge (applied practice) with ANSYS.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
  • At least 8 additional years of experience in an engineering capacity

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end design, analysis, and implementation of engineering solutions for moderate-to-high complexity projects
  • Own crucial projects for the success of Steam Turbine low-temp structures
  • Act as a technical resource and subject matter expert within Steam Turbine low-temp structures, providing global guidance to project teams and stakeholders
  • Drive Technical rigor to develop safe, high-quality products while being actively Engaged during design process
  • Review and approve engineering documentation and deliverables to ensure compliance with internal and external standards
  • Serve as a single point authoritative technical contact in Steam Turbine low-temp structures throughout the business including suppliers, sub-suppliers and field support
  • Drive innovation & stay current with relevant technologies, regulations, and industry trends by attending conferences and interfacing with academia
  • Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art in Steam Turbine low-temp structures in order to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for introduction
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to resolve technical issues and ensure successful project execution
  • Drive problem resolution across disciplines, identifying risks & mitigations to the system level
  • Identify and implement process improvements thru Lean and Artificial Intelligence to improve safety, quality and cost of products
  • Assist identifying skill gaps within Steam Turbine low-temp structures and recommend training sessions to address these gaps.
  • Develop breadth by interfacing directly with adjacent functional teams to drive system level understanding and solutions
  • Mentor and coach next generation engineers; facilitate knowledge sharing across teams
  • Lead the development of technical standards, best practices, design practices and process improvements
  • Exercise Curiosity by striving for improved products & processes to support customers
  • Be a Helpful resource to all levels of the global engineering team and encourage dialogue between all groups
  • Own and shape Steam Turbine low-temp structures team culture and identity, establishing values, norms, and ways of working that promote inclusion, psychological safety, accountability, and high performance
  • Perform and direct structural ANSYS FEA analysis including non-linear structural and transient thermal analysis.
