About The Position

ProcessBarron is seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Steam Turbine Application Engineer (Estimator) to support the growth of its Steam Turbine Services business through the development of accurate technical solutions, project estimates, and customer proposals. The Steam Turbine Application Engineer serves as a critical link between customers, sales, engineering, field services, and operations by evaluating customer requirements, reviewing turbine inspection data, developing repair recommendations, and preparing comprehensive cost estimates and commercial proposals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in estimating, engineering, project management, field services, maintenance, or industrial operations.
  • Experience supporting industrial, manufacturing, power generation, or rotating equipment projects.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, technical specifications, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to develop accurate cost estimates and technical proposals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of steam turbine systems and operation, turbine rotors, blades and diaphragms, bearings and seals, casings and valves, precision machining practices, rotor balancing and alignment, turbine clearances and tolerances, nondestructive examination methods, industrial maintenance practices, power generation systems, engineering drawings and specifications, cost estimating and budgeting principles.

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5)+ years of experience in steam turbine services or rotating equipment.
  • Experience estimating industrial outages, maintenance projects, or capital improvements.
  • Familiarity with turbine manufacturers such as GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Elliott, and Dresser-Rand.
  • Experience with ERP systems and cost-estimating software.
  • Knowledge of ASME and OSHA standards.
  • Field experience supporting industrial maintenance or outage projects.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for steam turbine repair, retrofit, overhaul, outage support, and installation projects.
  • Review customer requests for quotations (RFQs), turbine inspection reports, engineering data, and technical specifications.
  • Develop project scopes of work based on customer requirements and field findings.
  • Estimate labor, material, subcontractor services, tooling, equipment, and travel requirements.
  • Coordinate with machining, fabrication, field services, procurement, and engineering personnel to obtain accurate costing information.
  • Develop customer proposals including scope definitions, commercial terms, schedules, assumptions, and exclusions.
  • Ensure estimates align with company pricing strategies and profitability objectives.
  • Assist management in reviewing and approving proposals prior to customer submission.
  • Analyze inspection reports, field measurements, outage findings, and repair recommendations.
  • Review engineering drawings, turbine documentation, technical specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Evaluate turbine component conditions and develop recommended repair alternatives.
  • Support root cause evaluations and technical troubleshooting activities.
  • Assist customers in evaluating repair, refurbishment, replacement, and upgrade options.
  • Ensure technical solutions comply with applicable engineering standards and quality requirements.
  • Serve as a technical resource during customer discussions and proposal reviews.
  • Participate in customer meetings, site visits, and pre-bid walkthroughs as required.
  • Respond to customer technical questions regarding proposed repairs and services.
  • Collaborate with sales personnel to develop competitive solutions and identify growth opportunities.
  • Build strong customer relationships through timely communication and technical support.
  • Support business development efforts within industrial, manufacturing, and power generation markets.
  • Coordinate closely with engineering, field services, project management, fabrication, machining, and operations teams.
  • Participate in project handoff meetings to ensure successful transition from proposal to execution.
  • Assist project managers in clarifying scope requirements and technical assumptions.
  • Collaborate with procurement teams regarding vendor quotations and subcontractor support.
  • Provide technical guidance during project startup when required.
  • Maintain estimation databases and historical cost information.
  • Analyze estimate accuracy and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Support development of estimating standards, templates, and best practices.
  • Assist leadership in forecasting market trends and service demand.
  • Contribute to improving proposal turnaround times and estimating efficiency.
