About The Position

Facilities Management is entrusted with the development, care, maintenance, and operation of Colorado State University’s physical properties. Our purpose is to create and sustain environments that support CSU’s land-grant mission, fostering the success of students, faculty, and staff through world-class academic, research, and outreach programs. This position will perform installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of building steam piping systems, condensate equipment, and hot‑water heat‑exchange systems. It also supports troubleshooting, major repairs, and ongoing maintenance for central and distributed heating and cooling plant equipment within District Energy, along with other short‑term projects and assignments as needed.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of full time steam/pipefitting AND steam system maintenance and/or mechanical experience such as troubleshooting and maintenance on steam systems, steam traps, steam heat exchangers and use of pipe threading tools OR A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or progressively responsible steam/pipefitting AND steam system maintenance and/or mechanical experience such as troubleshooting and maintenance on steam systems, steam traps, steam heat exchangers and use of pipe threading tools equal to three (3) years.

Nice To Haves

  • Welding certification for shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), 6G, E6010 root, E7018 fill and cap, prepared, welded, and tested in accordance with the requirements of Section IX of the ASME code
  • Two years of pipe welding and metal fabrication experience
  • Six or more years’ steam, pipefitting and welding experience to include Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) 6G experience
  • Six or more years chilled water system experience
  • Steam boiler maintenance experience to include brazing, soft soldering, and silver soldering experience
  • Underground steam and HDPE piping installation experience and Pipe rigging experience
  • Construction experience, including print reading and isometric drawing experience
  • Directly related state service experience

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the operation, installation, maintenance, repair and modification of all building-side direct steam heat and heat exchanger systems.
  • Assists with problem investigation, major repairs, breakdowns and planned/corrective maintenance of all equipment in the central and distributed heating and cooling plants.
  • Supports the shop supervisors and utility services manager as needed with short-term projects and assignments.
