About The Position

This position reports directly to the Second/Third Class Power Plant Engineer and is responsible for operating power plant boilers and associated equipment in a combined heat and power system. The role involves maintaining appropriate logs and records, performing boiler water treatment, and repairing, overhauling, and maintaining power plant machinery and equipment. The Steam Fireman also prepares high pressure boilers for inspection, maintains clean work areas, and complies with all Complex health, safety, and security procedures. This is a Civil Service position. Salaries for union positions are determined according to the respective collective bargaining agreement. Applicants must not have felony convictions as defined by federal law. The Massachusetts Department of Correction has specific hiring restrictions related to sexual abuse and sexual harassment, particularly for individuals who may have contact with incarcerated individuals. Requirements

  • Possession of a current and valid First or Second Class Steam Firemans license issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety, pursuant to Chapter 146 of the Massachusetts General Laws.
  • Must be able to safely lift 50 lbs. or more.
  • No felony convictions, to include any actions defined in 5 U.S.C. 301; U.S.C. 509, 510; 42 U.S.C. 15601-15609.
  • Shall not have engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other institution as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997.
  • Shall not have been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse, or has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in the above paragraph.
