About The Position

Girls Inc. of the Pacific Northwest (GIPNW) is seeking Summer Camp Facilitators for our Eureka! STEM program, in Vancouver, WA and Portland, OR. Girls Inc. is a non-profit organization whose gender-specific and research-based programming is focused on equipping girls with the tools necessary to lead healthy, academically successful, and economically-independent lives. Together with our community partners and supporters, we give youth the opportunity to realize their own power. The Eureka! Summer Facilitator will create and implement a positive and safe environment for Eurekans to continue to become strong, smart and bold adults. They will facilitate curriculum-based activities and discussions designed to increase STEAM knowledge, strengthen self-confidence, and cultivate communication and other interpersonal skills. This position will facilitate a 2 week STEAM camp at two of our local college campuses – in Vancouver, WA the college site will be located at Clark College, and in Portland, OR the college site will be Portland State University. Eureka! is a five year program that brings youth, including many who will be first generation college applicants, onto local college and university campuses for an intensive summer program. Eureka utilizes STEAM and youth empowerment curriculum to engage 8th - 12th grade girls as an important part of the workforce of the future. During the Eureka! program, girls get to participate in a variety of hands-on, exciting, and compelling activities that explore STEAM at college campuses. With complementary activities in sports and physical fitness, healthy living, and financial literacy, Eureka! fully fosters educational, professional, and personal development. Girls Inc. Requirements

  • At least 1 year of group facilitation/instruction experience with underserved youth, required
  • Must possess strong youth behavior management skills, including the ability to effectively engage, de-escalate, and redirect youth in a summer camp setting
  • Ability to adapt strategies to meet the diverse needs of our youth who come from various backgrounds
  • Must possess strong communications and organizational skills, flexibility, independence, warmth, and the ability to problem solve
  • Must have the ability to travel to program sites, by way of public transportation, driving one’s own vehicle, or another reliable mode of transportation
  • Familiar with Google Suite, Zoom, and technologically savvy
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds and sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of group facilitation/instruction experience in intersectional identity-specific programing and hands-on, experiential programming
  • Post-High School Training, Associates or Bachelor’s degree is a preference, but not required
  • Experience being trained on propriety curriculum and implementation of lesson and activity plans
  • Familiarity with delivering culturally relevant and responsive youth programming plus a strong understanding of and/or willingness to learn about diverse cultures and communities.
  • Excitement leading and implementing summer camp curriculum that have a heavy focus on STEAM activities
  • Relevant and significant experience in gender-specific and/or experiential programming
  • Experience working with transgender, non-binary, and gender expansive youth
  • Bi-Cultural, Bilingual, such as Spanish, Somali, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Russian, or Ukrainian speaking ability highly desired
  • Deep knowledge of local community resources

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate a 2 week in-person Summer Camp
  • Participate in Girls Inc. Eureka! staff training and program preparation activities
  • Co-Lead with a team on start-up, implementation and close-out efforts, including: coordination of supply preparation, curriculum and other group/site specific resources
  • Create an equitable, inclusive, and anti-bullying classroom
  • Maintain clear and open communication with GIPNW staff
  • Establish authentic and meaningful connections with youth and families that support their commitment and retention to the Eureka! Program
  • Follow administrative expectations related to professionalism, time management, submitting timesheets, etc.
