About The Position

This is an IAMAW Union position. The successful candidate will join the Facility Operations team to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) located at NASA Langley Research Center. This position reports directly to the Steam Plant supervisor. All work will be performed with a high standard of quality and professionalism. All safety policies and procedures must be followed.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • ASOPE or NUILPE Operating Engineer's license is required or 8 years work experience plus an apprenticeship or equivalent training period in a designated field, craft, or trade that can be documented by a certificate or diploma from a reputable organization, military, school, or trade school program.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance if required for this specific position.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Must put forward professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.

  • Employees will exercise diligence when developing a Safe Plan of Action (SPA) for each task performed.

Responsibilities

  • Operation of boilers, air compressors, air dryers, pumps, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Observes, interprets, and records readings on gauges, meters, and charts, which register various aspects of boiler, boiler subsystems and other utility systems operations both on-site and remote.
  • Adjust controls to ensure safe and efficient boiler operations and to meet demands for steam and high-temperature water.
  • Keeps all main and auxiliary machinery and equipment of the system in good working order.
  • Performs Operator Maintenance to include lubricating, and emergency/minor repairs.
  • Assists maintenance personnel during facility outages to include repairs to boiler room equipment, including pumps valves, piping, and other auxiliary equipment.
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties such as typing, filing and generating reports, assisting with the development of SOP's, drawings, and ISO documents.
  • May be required to work an off-shift or rotating shift environment to include weekends and holidays.
