About The Position

The Stationary Engineer is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of campus mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and building automation systems. The position supports the University's educational, research, clinical, and residential operations by ensuring critical building systems remain operational, performing preventative maintenance, responding to emergencies, and maintaining a safe and comfortable campus environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • five years of commercial/institutional maintenance experience
  • Stationary Engineer License or equivalent
  • EPA Universal Certification (or within 180 days)
  • valid Illinois Driver's License
  • Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, BAS controls, CMMS, Microsoft Office
  • troubleshooting, communication and customer service skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in higher education, healthcare or research facilities
  • BAS experience
  • OSHA certification
  • additional trade certifications

Responsibilities

  • Operate, inspect, troubleshoot, maintain and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Monitor and optimize BAS.
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on chillers, boilers, pumps, cooling towers, AHUs, fan coil units, motors and associated equipment.
  • Support research laboratories and critical environments.
  • Complete work orders using CMMS.
  • Coordinate contractors.
  • Respond to emergencies and participate in on-call rotation.
  • Improve reliability and energy efficiency.
  • Follow OSHA, EPA, NFPA and University safety requirements.
