About The Position

This is a full-time Stationary Engineer III position within the Facilities Department at Navicent Health Medical Center. The role involves operating and maintaining campus heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, including boilers, chillers, cooling towers, fans, and pumps, to ensure optimal efficiency, safety, and occupant comfort. The position requires advanced skills in using Building Automation Systems (BAS) for monitoring and control, responding to alarms, and performing preventive maintenance. It also involves troubleshooting complex HVAC issues, executing repairs with minimal impact on hospital operations, and responding professionally to building occupant complaints. The role includes performing routine general maintenance across various facility systems and documenting all tasks and work time in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). The Stationary Engineer III will also read blueprints and maintenance manuals, assist with small projects, and act as an informal resource for less experienced peers. A valid driver's license is required, and the position may involve travel.

Requirements

• Stationary Engineer license from the municipality of work location or Power Engineer certification (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th Class) from either the National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers (NIULPE) or the American Society of Power Engineers (ASOPE). Equivalent certifications from federal organizations such as the United States Navy will also be considered.
• Valid Driver's License
• Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of technical training.
• 4 or more Years of Stationary Engineering Experience
• Advanced knowledge of applicable codes/regulations pertaining to assigned equipment and operations
• Advanced computer skills (e.g., CMMS, building automation, and Microsoft Office)
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, crawl, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. from floor to overhead, lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to chest-level, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance.
• Must be able to push/pull with 50 lbs. of force.
• Exposure to electrical and mechanical hazards and therefore knowledge of safety precautions.
• Position requires travel.
• May be exposed to road/weather hazards.
• Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.

Responsibilities

• Operates all campus heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment including boilers, steam absorption and centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, fans, pumps and systems in a manner that optimizes efficiency, safety, and occupant comfort per department policies and procedures with minimal to no guidance/assistance.
• Maintains accurate records and reports on all equipment startup, failures, problems, work in progress and completed work through logbooks and computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) with minimal to no guidance/assistance.
• Utilizes BAS as a tool for both monitoring and controlling HVAC equipment.
• Responds to alarms in a timely and correct manner.
• Optimizes operation using trending reports as appropriate.
• Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC and other equipment as assigned per established procedures including inspection, cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, testing, flushing, minor repairs, rebuilding and replacing parts/components to ensure that systems remain within the established operating parameters.
• Troubleshoots complex issues with HVAC equipment and determines the root cause in a timely manner.
• Executes repairs or installations with minimal impact to the hospital and patient care.
• Appropriately requests assistance as warranted by the situation.
• Responds to building occupant complaints in a timely and professional manner and takes appropriate corrective action.
• Keeps requester appraised of the status of corrective action.
• Maintains current daily logs, preventive maintenance records and equipment repair files to comply with local, state and federal regulatory requirements with minimal to no direction.
• Performs routine general maintenance including painting, plumbing, carpentry, equipment testing and repair, ventilation, lighting, electrical, groundskeeping and snow removal.
• Performs repairs on a large variety of facility systems such as mechanical, electrical, building systems and other critical systems with minimal to no guidance/assistance.
• Provides timely and proper response to assigned service calls, work orders and preventative maintenance to maintain a safe and efficient environment.
• Documents all tasks and work time on the CMMS.
• Reads blueprints and maintenance manuals to gain knowledge needed to complete assignments.
• Helps facilitate small projects.
• Acts as an informal resource for peers with less experience.
