This role is fully responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of a high-pressure boiler plant and refrigeration plant during a shift or watch period. The Stationary Engineer I will establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, and other employees, interacting professionally and courteously. This position contributes to and participates in the Performance/Quality Improvement activities of the assigned department, including data collection, analysis, and compliance with risk management and safety policies. The engineer will clean, lubricate, maintain, and repair boiler room equipment, piping systems, and other hospital systems, and will install replacements and improvements as directed. They will control the operation of all boiler and refrigeration plant equipment for proper generation of steam and chiller, water heating, cooking, and sterilization, and will make emergency repairs. The role also involves monitoring and controlling auxiliary generator, air conditioning, and ventilation equipment, and overseeing the Engineering Plant in the absence of the Director or Assistant Director of Engineering. The engineer will maintain the plant operations log, monitor alarm panels for special systems, and respond to emergency problems with elevators, electrical systems, flooding, or plant equipment failures, making necessary repairs. Serving on the Hospital Fire Response Team is also a responsibility when backup plant coverage is available or unnecessary. Demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior is expected when working with patients, families, visitors, and hospital employees.
