About The Position

The State Safety Manager will oversee the health and safety of all employees for their respective state, including the hub and all branch locations. This is an exempt salary position with a starting wage of $83,000-$109,000 based on relevant years of experience, education, certifications, and comparison to other employees already in this role.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 5+ years of experience in health and safety preferred
  • Must hold a valid CDL Class A driver's license or successfully complete company paid CDL training program within 90 days of employment
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to demonstrate adaptability in a fast-paced changing work environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, counseling, and negotiation skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to evaluate and research training options and alternatives
  • Thorough understanding of applicable federal, state, local, and company policies, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Basic proficiency with computers and common office technology
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 50-100 pounds at times
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical exam
  • Ability to work with all types to freight which include, but are not limited to hazardous material, perishable food and alcohol, firearms, ammunition, and live animals
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and a criminal background check

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Health and Safety, or related field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily safety operations of the state and ensure all laws, regulations, and employment practices are being followed properly
  • Maintain a driver inventory database
  • Collaborate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and stakeholders
  • Inspect each facility to identify safety, health, and environmental risks
  • Develop and implement inspection policies and procedures, schedule routine inspections
  • Prepare and present various safety related reports to upper management
  • Prepare and schedule training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant projects
  • Monitor compliance with safety procedures
  • Draft inspection reports to document inspection findings
  • Ensure that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed
  • Maintain records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required
  • Facilitate monthly leadership meetings
  • Travel is required
  • Perform other required duties as assigned
