Startup Generalist

Maximor AINew York, NY
Onsite

About The Position

Maximor is building the AI operating system for the CFO office, with Audit-Ready AI Agents that connect to a company's existing finance stack to automate processes like order-to-cash, record-to-report, treasury management, financial reporting, and audit readiness. The company has raised $9M and is defining a new category in AI for finance. This role is designed for an individual who can adapt to evolving needs, working directly with founders on critical tasks that may include understanding customer workflows, developing ROI models, conducting market research, and contributing to category definition through various forms of content and engagement. The emphasis is on a generalist approach, with a strong preference for individuals who can build and execute, leverage AI tools effectively, and possess clear thinking and writing skills. The role is for early-career individuals with a focus on learning and growth, rather than a predefined career ladder.

Requirements

  • Zero to two years of experience, or finishing a degree.
  • Demonstrated experience in analytical and challenging work (e.g., consulting, banking, product, engineering, research, journalism, startup, or self-run projects).
  • Clear writing ability, reflecting clear thinking.
  • Experience using AI tools (like Claude) to perform real work, automate processes, or build genuinely useful applications.
  • Unusual curiosity and a drive to explore topics in depth.
  • Desire for early responsibility and ownership.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt, as finance or AI background is not required.
  • Ability to work in-person in New York City, five days a week, alongside the founders.

Nice To Haves

  • Shipped a real product, tool, automation, or business without an engineer.
  • Written publicly that has been read by others.
  • Experience in a startup with fewer than thirty people and comfort with its chaos.
  • Background in accounting or finance (Big Four, audit, FP&A, controllership).
  • Studied a quantitative field and possess strong writing skills.
  • Experience running projects end-to-end with minimal supervision.
  • Curiosity about how money moves.

Responsibilities

  • Learn how finance teams really work by sitting in on sales calls, implementations, and support threads, visiting customers, and observing processes end-to-end.
  • Read and synthesize customer feedback to gain the best understanding of customer needs.
  • Contribute to strategic decision-making by sizing markets, analyzing competitor pricing, and interviewing finance professionals to develop informed points of view.
  • Build necessary tools, prototypes, and analyses, such as internal tools with AI, pricing analyses, customer event execution, and metrics dashboards.
  • Help define the company's category through original research, customer stories, founder content, conference talks, and building relationships within the accounting and finance industry.
  • Address key problems such as pricing software that replaces work, proving ROI for AI agents, understanding what builds controller trust, synthesizing customer feedback into decisions, and building a new market category.

Benefits

  • Competitive pay
  • Meaningful early-stage equity
  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents
  • 401(k) match
