About The Position

Perform startup and commissioning of newly installed commercial HVAC equipment, including rooftop units (RTUs), split systems, air handlers, make-up air units, exhaust fans, and related equipment. Verify proper installation and operation of HVAC equipment according to manufacturer specifications and project requirements. Inspect equipment, ductwork, and associated components to identify installation deficiencies and recommend corrective actions. Perform operational testing, system checks, and functional performance verification. Measure and record operating data including voltage, amperage, refrigerant pressures, airflow, temperatures, and other system performance metrics. Troubleshoot startup issues and coordinate repairs or corrections with installation teams when necessary. Complete startup reports, commissioning documentation, and project records accurately and on time. Communicate professionally with customers, project managers, and field personnel regarding startup status and project completion. Coordinate scheduling and startup activities to support project timelines. Maintain company vehicles, tools, testing equipment, and inventory in a clean and organized condition. Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and manufacturer safety requirements. Identify and report job site hazards and assist in maintaining a safe work environment. Participate in ongoing training to remain current on HVAC equipment, startup procedures, and industry best practices.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of commercial HVAC systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and mechanical drawings.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems, refrigeration cycles, airflow, and HVAC controls.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively communicating with project teams.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple startup assignments and meet project deadlines.
  • Proficiency using testing instruments such as multimeters, manometers, thermometers, and airflow measurement tools.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of commercial HVAC installation, sheet metal, startup, or service experience preferred.
  • EPA Certification preferred but not required.
  • Experience reading mechanical plans and equipment specifications preferred.
  • Knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment manufacturers and startup procedures is a plus.
