About The Position

Our Starch Baler will be responsible for mixing supplies to make adhesive for production requirements and recording the weight of all waste. This role involves operating a baler, collecting and processing waste from production lines, and maintaining equipment. The position requires adherence to safety protocols and accurate record-keeping.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years in a corrugated, packaging, or manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and frequently lift or carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Certification or ability to safely operate a forklift or pallet jack.
  • Strict adherence to plant safety rules, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures to prevent accidents during maintenance.
  • 0-1 years of related job experience.
  • Ability to lift, twist and carry up 50 - 75 pounds, manipulate (push and pull) up to 160 pounds of product with material handling equipment and skids weighing up to 2,000 pounds utilizing pallet jack.
  • Walking/Standing - walk throughout the warehouse to complete customer orders. Stand when operating order picker or reach truck equipment and when operating cutter.
  • Sitting - sit only when driving sit-down material handling equipment.
  • Lifting - lift items weighing a few ounces up to 150 pounds with assistance .
  • Stooping - performed when filling orders or putting away products assigned to floor level locations. May bend at the waist.
  • Kneeling - kneel when filling orders or putting away products assigned to floor level locations.

Responsibilities

  • Periodically double-check measurements.
  • Occasionally maintain and clean mechanisms.
  • Operate baler.
  • Bale all waste generated by corrugator as well as waste from trimmed roll stock.
  • Drive forklift to pickup waste from various locations around the plant.
  • Fill out waste report daily.
  • Fill carrier and borax hopper when needed.
  • Follow formula for mixing adhesive manually and monitor system when running on auto.
  • Check starch parameters as to viscosity, gel temp, and temperature on finished batches and holding tanks.
  • Record consumption data.
  • Check production run sheet for starch requirements type and amount.
  • Record all QC information.
  • Put empty cores in the core bin.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Transport loose scrap, bad sheets, and trim waste from production lines to the baler area.
  • Safely feed waste into the shredder and run the baling machine to compress it.
  • Wrap completed bales in wire or strapping and secure them tightly before removal.
  • Weigh, tag, and track bales using plant scales and software.
  • Keep the work zone spotless, unclog paper jams, and perform daily checks on the baler fans and components.
