About The Position

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is seeking a Standby Reliability Power Electrician to perform a variety of specialized journey-level electrical functions. This role involves maintenance, inspections, operations, installations, repair, replacement, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities on Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) and building standby generator power systems. The position is within the Maintenance Production Division, Infrastructure Maintenance and Utilities Department, and requires working at both Site 200 in Livermore, California, and Site 300 in Tracy, California. A full-time on-site presence is mandatory due to the nature of the work.

Requirements

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Completion of apprenticeship program in the electrician trade or equivalent experience.
  • Basic journey-level skills, knowledge, and abilities in the electrician trade, including proficiency in the use of all tools of the trade.
  • Knowledge and ability to maintain, inspect, operate, install, repair, replace, test, troubleshoot, and commission of stand-by power systems, including generators, automatic and manual transfer switches.
  • Ability to perform annual preventative maintenance on various brands of automatic and manual transfer switches, including key test, drop test, and load banks.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70E and NFPA 110, Standard for Emergency and Standby Power Systems, and applicable Safety policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills necessary to interact with all levels of technical and administrative personnel.
  • Basic knowledge of personal computers and related software (e.g., email, Microsoft Word, etc.) to prepare logs and reports, send and receive e-mails, perform computer-based training, and timekeeping entry.
  • Valid California driver’s license and the ability to work scheduled, on-call, and emergency overtime.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with maintenance and reliability standards and concepts such as root cause analysis, reliability centered maintenance, continuous improvement, NFPA 70B, and ANSI/NETA testing specifications.
  • Knowledge of common electrical devices and their ratings and application.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, inspections, operations, installation, repair, replacement, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning on building standby generator power systems including automatic and manual transfer switches.
  • Test, troubleshoot, and repair malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components using electrical test equipment (voltmeters, ohmmeters, insulation testers, etc.) and print reading skills.
  • Follow all national, local, and Laboratory safety procedures and policies, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), selecting and using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and actively participating in Laboratory work planning and control processes.
  • Document and communicate the results of preventive maintenance tasks, including visual inspections, malfunction detection, hazard identification, and code compliance.
  • Analyze data and prepare reports required for managing projects, work orders, and preventive maintenance records.
  • Provide effective and timely customer service to clients and team members.
  • Complete preventative maintenance requests, deficiency reports, and work orders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
