About The Position

The Royal College partners and collaborates to lead the evolution of specialty medical education and standards; support specialist physicians, learners and teams to continuously improve; and advocate for excellence in specialty medicine by supporting innovation, well-being, equity and person-centered care. We are a national, nonprofit organization established in 1929 by a special Act of Parliament to oversee the medical education of specialists in Canada. Reporting to the Manager, Specialty Standards, the Standards Policy Analyst provides expert advice, analysis, and support for the Royal College standards and the broader standards agenda. The Standards Policy Analyst conducts the development of new standards and the revisions of existing standards through research and analysis relevant to national training standards; including identifying, analyzing, and formulating standards documents and policies. This also includes preparing and presenting findings and recommendations to internal and external partners; and supporting the development and implementation of the recommended alternatives. The Standards Policy Analyst works closely with internal staff, Royal College partner groups and relevant committees to address standards policy and/or standards initiatives and to advance the Royal College’s overall national standards agenda.

Requirements

  • Level of education, training and experience equivalent to a master’s degree in education, Humanities, Science or related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience analyzing, researching and developing policy and program issues.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience writing and editing technical medical documentation and terminology.
  • Knowledge of research design, methods, and data analysis. Experience reviewing research proposals and research manuscripts.
  • Experience developing and monitoring project plans and critical paths involving multiple contributors and adapting based on project progress and changes in project/ research context.
  • Experience preparing written materials including research proposals, minutes, briefing notes, position statements, reports, and presentations.
  • Experience working with diverse internal and external partners (e.g., health organizations, academic researchers, educational institutions).

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills in French
  • Proficiency in MS 365 applications.
  • Experience in Program Administration or medical education.

Responsibilities

  • Develops strategic recommendations that guide standards development including policies within the context of Competence by Design (CBD) and national standards.
  • Implement standards policy and program initiatives including the development of national guidelines.
  • Contributes to and, where deemed appropriate, leads standards policy and process discussions by preparing options and recommendations on training standards issues within the disciplines and trends by analyzing, comparing, contrasting and synthesizing complex information, preparing documents to inform decisions (e.g., briefing notes, presentations, speaking points, discussion papers, and policy papers), formulating summative reports, and preparing and/or delivering presentations.
  • Identifies and monitors standards policy/discipline issues relevant to the Royal College national standards or its standards agenda by conducting gap analysis and problem definition, proposing solutions to senior leadership and clinician educators, and monitoring actions/decisions in consultation with the relevant leadership team and partners.
  • Executes standards policy research and development initiatives to advance the Royal College’s national standards agenda and inform decision-making.
  • Articulates standards policy and research questions impacting national standards across 108+ disciplines and studies those issues through appropriate methods (e.g., data collection and analysis, consultation) to support evidence-based decision making.
  • Leads national standards evaluation activities, tracks relevant changes progress using internal databases and drafts reports, updates as necessary.
  • Executes and/or oversees research on national standards including policy and other initiatives by developing a project / research plan, conducting or ensuring the production of research and analysis tools (e.g., environmental scans, comparative reviews), and analyzing trends and issues to synthesize multiple standards perspectives.
  • Coordinates relationships with internal and external partners to address new standards policy and/or initiatives to advance the Royal College’s overall national standards frameworks.
